Artist Talk / Lecture

On November 27th, Green Lens Studios is pleased to host an artist’s talk by Andrew Ranville. Ranville spent six weeks in his home state of Michigan this past July and August. Working on the Rabbit Island Residency project, Ranville broke ground on a sustainable residency program located on a remote, forested island in the vast waters of Lake Superior (the largest freshwater lake in the world by surface area). By securing funds via Kickstarter (a crowdfunding platform) the artist and other volunteers were able to begin laying the foundations of this challenging and unique artist residency. Join us as Ranville shares his experiences from the island and offers insights on how the project used social media not only fund the project, but also to engage and inform its supporters.

ABOUT RABBIT ISLAND:

Three miles off Northern Michigan’s Keweenaw Peninsula, located in Lake Superior, lies Rabbit Island. It is over 90 acres of forest and rock, a rugged northern ecosystem that remains in its natural state. The owner worked with a local nature conservancy to put a easement on the land, ensuring that the ecosystem will remain protected forever.

Exhibition

Green Lens Studios is pleased to announce the Exhibition Opening of   “Compass Project” on 12th of October. The exhibition will feature a mixed media installation collaborating with live performed poetry.

Compass is a collaborative project between two London based artists, a multifarious platform for creative discourse. Working as the compass, they aim to measure depth and direction of collective memory, inviting the viewer to engage within the creative discourse. Collective memory indeed provides the link between objects, viewer and artists. Both artists, Anja Henckel and Petra Stenvall have brought together a wide range of media including photography, moving image, sculpture, fabric and sound. Inspired by collective action, lost or abandoned items are given new directions and map the familiar, the unexpected or even unwanted.
